EXPERIENCE

After consecutively being a predoctoral researcher, an assistant and a postdoctoral - assistant, in 1994 Serge Gutwirth was appointed as a full time lecturer (‘docent’) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel where he has been teaching ‘Legal methodology’, ‘International Protection of Human Rights’, ‘Legal Theory’ and ‘Introduction to the major legal systems’. Since 1994 he also holds a part-time position of lecturer at the Faculty of law of the Erasmus University Rotterdam where he teaches ‘Philosophy of law’. He has amongst others been a Visiting Professor at the University of Ghana (Legon, Accra), the European Academy of Legal Theory (Brussels) and the University of Georgia (Athens, USA). Since October 2003 Gutwirth is holder of a research fellowship in the framework of the VUB-Research contingent for his project ‘Sciences and the democratic constitutional state: a mutual transformation process’. During this period (which lasts until September 2013) teaching at the VUB is limited to one course ‘Introduction à la recherche scientifique en droit’ .
